Abstrakt

The notation, meaning and role of faith as the ultimate concern are essential for the whole theo-philosophical thought of Paul Tillich. Faith as the ultimate concern expresses human relation with what interests him the most in his being. In accordance with the ultimate concern a man forms his life – the material sense of the ultimate concern, which at the same time account for the purpose of his existence – the formal sense of the ultimate concern. The ultimate concern functions as a guarantor of the purpose of human’s actions as well, so it possesses its significant ethical dimension. The ultimate concern is eventually set in personal God, who by his embodiment overcame the ontological gap between a finite human being and God’s infinity and brought reconciliation between them.
