Abstrakt

This article examines the spirituality of Dorothy Day. It presents Day’s deep relationship with God, her engagement in the ecclesial community, and her relationship to the world. Drawing on the rich spiritual tradition of the Church, Day experienced Christ in the Word of God and in the sacraments, but also in creation and, above all, in the other person. As a laywoman, a single mother, a model of piety, and a witness committed to peace, justice, life, and the works of mercy, she remains a significant source of inspiration for people today confronted with war, injustice, racism, abortion, and social, political, and economic change. The article employs source analysis and compares Day’s spiritual experience with the theological tradition of Catholic spirituality.
