Author Guidelines

  1. “The Person and the Challenges: The Journal of Theology, Education, Canon Law and Social Studies Inspired by Pope John Paul II” welcomes scientifically valid, unpublished works in the following areas: theology, biblical studies, canon law, educational sciences, sociology, family studies and other related disciplines. The journal also publishes reports from important conferences and book reviews.
  2. “The Person and the Challenges” accepts contributions written in English, German, Spanish, Italian and French. The texts will be published both in printed form and a digital version (PDF format) on the journal website.
  3. Authors of articles are required to provide their ORCID numbers (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) upon submitting their manuscripts. This number will be presented by the author’s name and affiliation. Submissions of authors who do not provide their ORCID numbers will not be accepted for publication.
  4. Texts published in the languages mentioned above should also provide an English version of the title, keywords and abstract.
  5. Contributions should be submitted in .doc, .docx (MS Word) format either as an e-mail attachment or on a CD. Graphics should be provided as separate TIFF, EPS, JPEG, PDF, PNG files with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.
  6. Texts should be submitted in an unambiguous, clear, and final form, ready for publication and corrected by the native speaker.
  7. The editors will provide a response indicating acceptance or refusal of the text within three months. Texts will be reviewed by specialists in a given discipline or field.
  8. The article should have section titles written in Arabic numerals. Footnotes with raised Arabic numerals are to be inserted at the bottom of pages and not at the end of the article. A short list of references (5–20 publications) should be included at the end of the article. All acronyms and initials should be spelled out first before subsequent use.
  9. References to books and articles used in footnotes should be given as follows:

10. The editorial board reserves the right to request revisions of style or corrections in order to ensure a standard methodological format.
11. Reliability in science is one of the cornerstones of quality. For this reason, the editors of “The Person and the Challenges” thank the authors for their honest and ethical stance regarding the creation of work which is solely theirs and expect them to disclose the work or influence of others in the appropriate footnotes. According to the editorial staff, “ghostwriting” and “guest authorship” is a manifestation of scientific misconduct, and any detected cases will be exposed, including notification of their respective owners.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  1. The manuscript has not been published in the past in printed and/or electronic form in any other periodical or monograph in Poland or any other country.
  2. The manuscript has not been submitted to any other periodical or monograph in Poland or any other country.
  3. The manuscript is not being currently reviewed by any other editorial staff.
  4. The manuscript has been prepared with the professional and intellectual input of all its authors.
  5. The work is an original creation and does not infringe upon the rights of third parties.
  6. The work has been performed exclusive of any conflict of interest between its authors and other institutions, businesses or  organisation, and if any such conflict of interest (e.g. a commercial source of funding) exists, a relevant statement has been made in the appropriate section of the work.
  7. The text has been adapted to all editorial requirements indicated by the editorial team.
  8. I, the author, hereby represent that this declaration is made with full awareness of the legal and ethical ramifications of an attestation of untruth. I understand that the editorial staff and the publisher reserve the right to verify the authenticity of the manuscript I have submitted and to immediately reject it, should the above principles be violated. I understand that in the case of such violation, the editorial staff and the publisher have the right to notify the author's superior, indicating the extent of such violation.

Privacy Statement

General information
  1. The operator of the website is the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow.
  2. The website collects information on its users and their behaviour in the following way:
    • by voluntary input of information in forms;
    • by storing cookie files on the user's device;
    • by keeping web server logs.
Information in forms
  1. The website collects information which is voluntarily input by the user.
  2. In addition, the website may store connection parameters information (timestamp, IP address).
  3. Data in the form is not made available to third parties otherwise than by the user's consent.
  4. Data entered in the form may constitute a set of potential customers, registered by the website operator in a register kept by the Chief Inspector for Personal Data Protection (GIODO).
  5. Data entered in the form is processed for purposes evident from the function of a specific form, e.g. in order to process a service claim or business contact.
  6. Data entered in forms may be communicated to entities providing certain technical services – this concerns, in particular, transferring data of the owner of the registered domain to Internet domain operators (primarily the Naukowa i Akademicka Sieć Komputerowa j.b.r (NASK) – Research and Academic Computer Network), payment service providers (PSPs) or other entities with which the website operator may cooperate.
Cookie files
  1. The website uses cookie files.
  2. Cookie files are computer data, especially in the form of text files, which are stored on the user's device and are designed to enable the use of the website's pages. Cookies usually contain the name of the Internet page of origin, storage time on the user's device and a unique reference number.
  3. The website operator is the entity which places cookie files and accesses them on the website user's device.
  4. Cookie files are used to:
    • generate statistics which enable the operator to understand the user's online behaviour and, consequently, to enhance the structure and content of web pages;
    • maintain the website user's session (after logging in), thanks to which the user does not have to enter his/her user ID and password on every subpage of the website;
    • determine the user's profile to display personalised content in advertising networks, in particular Google.
  1. The website uses two basic types of cookies: session cookies and persistent cookies. Session cookies are temporary files stored on the user's device until the user has logged out, left the web page or terminated the application (Internet browser). Persistent cookies are stored on the user's device for the time specified in cookie file parameters or until they are deleted by the user.
  2. Internet browsing software (Internet browsers) by default allows cookies to be stored on the user's device. Website users may change such settings.   3. Restricting the use of cookie files may affect certain functionalities available on the website's pages.
  4. Cookies may be stored on the website user's device and used also by various advertising services or other partners cooperating with the website's operator.

  6. Cookie files may be used by advertising networks, in particular by Google, to display customised advertising content, i.e. content which has been adjusted to the user's browsing behaviour. To this end, they may store the user's navigation path or time spent on a particular page.
  7. As for the information on user's browsing preferences collected by the Google advertising network, the user may view and edit data stored in cookie files by means of the following tool: https://www.google.com/ads/preferences/.
Server logs
  1. Information on certain behaviour of users are logged in the server layer. Such data is used only for the purpose of website administration and to provide the most efficient hosting services.
  2. The browsing content is identified by URLs. The following information may also be logged:
    • request received time,
    • response sent time,
    • client terminal name – identification performed by HTTP,
    • information on errors which occurred in the HTTP transaction,
    • the URL of the page previously visited by the user (referer link) – if the website was entered through a link,
    • the user's browser information,
    • IP address information.
  1. The above data is not associated with any specific persons browsing the pages.
  2. They are collected solely for administrative purposes.
Data sharing
  1. The data may be made available to external entities only within limits permitted by law.
  2. Personally identifiable information is made available only if the person in question expresses consent.
  3. The operator may be obliged to disclose information collected by the website to competent authorities on the basis of legally permitted requests, to the extent required in such request.
