Il ruolo dei vescovi emeriti nella Chiesa

Il frutto del Vaticano II sulla gerarchia è nuovo modo di vedere lo stato ed i compiti dei vescovi emeriti. Dopo andare in pensione i vescovi emeriti rimangono nel colleggio dei vescovi e partecipano pienamente al sacerdozio di Cristo e rimangono pastori del gregge. Approfitando della sapienza e ricca esperienza possono nei diversi modi servire la Chiesa universale lavorando nelle Conferenze Episcopali, specialmente nella diocesi, dove hanno esguito il ruolo del vescovo diocesano, ed alla quale sono sempre legati.
