Celem artykułu jest ustalenie jak najbardziej precyzyjnej liczby osób, które w Starym Testamencie nosiły imię Abdiasz. Publikacje podają różne liczby, stąd najpierw została omówiona kwestia różnych form tego samego imienia, a następnie każda z tych postaci została przeanalizowana pod kątem ewentualnej tożsamości z innymi postaciami noszącymi to samo imię.
