Abstract

The custom of constructing the Tomb of Christ in the final days of the Holy Week has been present since the early centuries of Polish Christianity. Following the Good Friday liturgy, a cross (in later centuries also the Eucharist) was placed inside the tomb and kept there until the night of the Resurrection. The article presents the development of ceremonies related to the Tomb of Christ in the Syrian, Maronite, Byzantine and Western Churches.
