In the history of Polish Catholic media a significant role falls to the Catholic Press Agency (KAP) which operated in the years 1927–1939. The author of the article presents the political context of the journalistic activity of KAP under the leadership of Fr. Zygmunt Kaczyński in the light of the research material collected in the Vatican archives. The case of Fr. Kaczyński offers a suitable starting point for more general reflections on the complex problem of the impact of the political views of the editor-in-chief over against the requirement of an objective description of reality. The agency’s journalistic activity meant dealing with topics of a social and political nature, but the clearly declared political views of its director were perceived as a support of one political party and criticism of the government camp. From the relevant source material it follows that even within the Episcopate there was no unanimous opinion on Fr. Kaczyński, as evidenced by the extreme stances of Cardinal August Hlond and Cardinal Aleksander Kakowski.References
