The Second Vatican Council in the writings of bishop Jerzy Ablewicz in the years 1962–1965

This article is a continuation of earlier reflections which presented the historical context of Bishop Ablewicz’s participation in the Second Vatican Council. It presents an analysis of the writings of the Bishop of Tarnów in which he recalls the events of the Council he witnessed. He discusses the purpose and tasks of the Council and highlights its most important moments. In addition, it contains the young hierarch’s memories of his meetings in Rome with Popes John XXIII and Paul VI, as well as with bishops and theologians from around the world. It also reveals his experience of the Eternal City and his interpretation of the teachings of the Council, especially the Decree “Apostolicam actuositatem”. Undoubtedly, the experience of the two sessions of the Council gave direction to the bishop’s pastoral activities in his diocese after its conclusion.
