Issues related to marriage and family were given an important place during the work of the Fifth Synod of the Diocese of Tarnów. First, a Team for Marriage and Family was established during the preparatory period of the synod, and then a Commission for Marriage and Family was formed. Both bodies noted in agreement that the sacramental marriage constitutes the foundation of the Christian family, which is the „domestic Church”. The fruit of the synodal work in the Diocese of Tarnów was the formulation, in accordance with the requests of the faithful, of responses to the challenges facing the pastoral care of marriages and families. These were expressed in a document adopted at the second plenary session. Among these challenges were issues such as: the family in the face of phenomena related to emigration, support for marriages and families experiencing crises, accompanying people living in irregular situations, and accompanying people.
