Abstract

In the context of groups of new evangelization, various charismatic groups and their leaders – differently influencing the faithful in various ways – the aim of the article is to identify the source and to show charismatic phenomena over the centuries.
The subject of historical and theological reflection are issues related to the issue that interests us from biblical times to the nineteenth century, when there was a very strong expansion of move-ments that define themselves as charismatic and under the “action” of the Holy Spirit. The vast ma-jority of behaviors observed during extreme charismatic meetings is evident in occult religions. Im-petuous and abnormal experiences have become the hallmark of groups and their leaders who con-vince their followers of the supposed action of the Holy Spirit by them and their unique mission to take to renew the faith of the Church. In the modern era, there appeared diverse charismatic sects in the Protestant and Anglican spirit, characterized by specific religious phenomena: visions, healings, prophecies, speaking in tongues, healing, trembling, baptism in the Holy Spirit, falling asleep in the Spirit.
