Bishop Jerzy Ablewicz’s participation in the Second Vatican Council. A historical perspective

The sixtieth anniversary of the end of the Second Vatican Council seems a fitting moment to recall the situation of the Church in Poland at the time and to present the figure of Bishop Jerzy Ablewicz in this historical context. Strained relations between the state authorities and the Church meant that the Tarnów hierarch faced difficulties attending the council session in Rome. Also worth analysing are his conciliar initiatives in the diocese and his activity as a father of the Council. These deliberations aim to supplement well the numerous studies on the life and pastoral ministry of this Ordinary of Tarnów.
