The tomb of one of the greatest Silesian Piasts has not survived to our times. The sarcophagus, a work of sepulchral art, made shortly after the ruler’s death, is now empty at the National Museum in Wrocław. The ruler’s remains are considered to be lost. Also, no items from his grave have survived. The purpose of this article is to recall the history of the prince’s tomb, with particular emphasis on those historical sources which constitute the last trace of the lost remains of the prince known today. We are talking about the protocol of the last opening of the sarcophagus, which took place on January 6, 1944, and the photographic documentation of the chest with the remains of Henry IV Probus, made soon afterwards.References
