The article examines the legal norms regulating the cooperation of the major superior of a religious institute with the council, focusing on the general principles of this relationship as well as the process of admitting to a religious profession. The goal is to demonstrate the scope of the superior’s competences, the significance of the counselor’s votum and other forms of their participation in making decisions concerning the candidate’s ties with the institute. The subject of this study is the norms of the Code of Canon Law and the regulations of proper law. Properly regulated decision-making procedures are an important element in protecting the integrity of the institute and achieving its goal while considering the principle of justice and the protection of the candidate’s rights. The article shows that the code norms governing the council’s participation in the decision-making process and their compliance with the principle of the superior’s personal responsibility are consistent.
