Abstract

The paper considers the problem of happiness in extremely difficult situations, faced by people living in Soviet or German Nazi camps. The author of the paper asks whether it is possible to experience joy in such conditions, but also, if happiness can be understood as fleeting moments, not related in any way with successful life. Memories of prisoners are evidence that this is possible. Moments of happiness and joy were of great value, as they helped the prisoners to survive.

Barbara Pakos, Uniwersytet Papieski Jana Pawła II w Krakowie

Mgr, doktorantka na Wydziale Filozoficznym Uniwersytetu Papieskiego Jana Pawła II, absolwentka historii sztuki na Uniwersytecie Jagiellońskim, absolwentka studiów podyplomowych z dydaktyki historii, oligofrenopedagogiki oraz filozofii i etyki. Pracuje jako pedagog specjalny i nauczyciel etyki w szkole zawodowej. Pasjonuje się filozofią i historią XX wieku.
