Życie zacne czy spełnione? Kilka uwag do „Medytacji o życiu godziwym” Tadeusza Kotarbińskiego

In today’s individualized world, which emphasizes the importance of individual self-development, it is increasingly difficult to find reliable care, indicative of the integrity of the acting entity. Such care is often perceived as an impediment to an individual life fulfilled on one’s terms, in accordance with recognized potential and needs. Does this imply that, currently, integrity cannot be reconciled with personal fulfilment? This question, worthy of investigation, constitutes the subject of my work. Within this framework, the paper first elucidates Tadeusz Kotarbiński’s understanding of an upright life. Subsequently, it presents a decent existence in the context of individual happiness and the ultimate purpose of human life. This approach enables the determination of what, according to the author of “Meditations on a decent life”, constitutes a fulfilled human life. In the next step, an attempt is made to define a selected model of a fulfilled life, currently promoted by the media. Finally, I juxtapose this disseminated paradigm with the attitude of a reliable guardian, which Kotarbiński considered to be the embodiment of an upright life. This comparison will facilitate an answer to the question posed in the title.
