The dispute over the inheritance of the Zamość Entail after the childless death of Jan Sobiepan Zamoyski was one of the most serious political conflicts in the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth in the second half of the 17th century. It lasted from 1665 to 1677. Among the numerous participants in the dispute were two women – Maria Kazimiera d’Arquien, the widow of the entailer, and his sister Gryzelda Wiśniowiecka. Their involvement in the conflict has not been the subject of a separate study so far. The aim of the article is to show what potential both women had when entering the conflict, and above all what tactics they chose and how they tried to win supporters or minimize the harmful influence of enemies on the achievement of their goals. The analysis includes a presentation and comparison of the activities of both women in the dispute over the inheritance after Jan Zamoyski.
