The Holy Spirit in Saint Faustina’s Writings

Saint Faustina Helena Kowalska (1905–1938) is one of the greatest mystics of the twentieth century. Her texts recorded in the Diary and Letters are a testimony of mystical experiences and an interior life of the highest level. The Secretary of Divine Mercy discovered anew the richness of the mystery of the Incarnation of the Son of God as it is manifested not only in the role of Mary, but also the Holy Spirit, through whom she conceived Jesus the Savior. Saint Faustina strongly believed in the interior presence of the Holy Spirit and experienced encounters with him. She noticed the extraordinary action of the Third Person of God, especially in three Sacraments: Confirmation, Eucharist and Reconciliation. The Saint lived out and experienced the love of God thanks to the power of the Holy Spirit. Thus, her prayer addressed to the Paraclete – who was for her a real and vivid reality that she experienced in every aspect of her life – was something natural.
