This article presents a critical approach to certain concepts and applications of abduductive reasoning, which is usually defined as the opposite of deductive reasoning. By analyzing certain patterns of formal reasoning and some applications of abductive reasoning, I show the real presence of deductive schemes, where there were only supposed to be abductive. I tried to find the most important causes of these mistakes, which are, among others: inadequate understanding of causality, ambiguity of the concept of explanation, gaps in the logical analysis of reasoning, and the inability to properly distinguish between deduction and reduction. At the end I formulate some proposals and demands, which may help in avoiding major errors related to improper use of abductive reasoning.References
