Priestly identity in the light of ecclesiology of communion

The question of the place and role of priests is still relevant due to the specificity of today’s times. Phenomena such as accelerated secularisation or the relativism of truth often make the priest appear as someone completely alien and unnecessary. This perspective is detrimental not only to lay people watching from the outside, as it were, but also to priests themselves. In addition to external factors related to the climate of our era, there is also the question of the family environment of candidates for the priesthood or their motivation for entering the priestly path, which also has an impact on their lives. The question of where to look for the inviolable source of priestly identity, especially in this day and age, therefore seems legitimate. Hence, the author begins his initial reflections with an analysis of selected passages of Holy Scripture and documents of the Church’s Magisterium. His reflection culminates in the introduction of the dimension of ecclesiology of communion, which he sees as a proposal to answer the question of the inviolable elements of priestly identity.
