The possibility of updating the total apologetics as exemplified by Wincenty Kwiatkowski’s argument “from counter-reaction”

The article examines the process of updating the total apologetics — the type of apologetics of Christianity developed by Wincenty Kwiatkowski. In the first part, the author discusses the course of this process, which took place from 1937 to 1972 and was then interrupted. Therefore, the author asks whether various elements of Kwiatkowski’s apologetics could, after more than five decades, now be updated. In the second part, the author hypothesizes that one such element, namely, the argument “from counter-reaction” regarding the historical credibility of the gospels, could currently be updated, as contemporary scholarship offers sources and insights that make this possible. The author then verifies this hypothesis by juxtaposing the argument “from counter-reaction” with the recent historical research. In this way, the article establishes a foundation for initiating a discussion about the possibility of updating Kwiatkowski’s work in the present day.
