The personalist vision of culture in relation to Hall’s concept of culture: Implications for the development of intercultural communication competence

The article compares John Paul II’s personalist vision of culture with the model of culture popularized by Edward T. Hall in the context of intercultural competence education. The analysis demonstrates that although these approaches originate from different philosophical and anthropological traditions, they can effectively complement each other in educational settings oriented toward intercultural communication. Integrating personalist anthropology, which emphasizes human dignity, subjectivity, and the creative character of the person, with a model highlighting the multilayered structure of culture enhances the understanding of values, norms, and hidden cultural mechanisms, while supporting the development of personalist competencies necessary for meaningful intercultural communication. The article is grounded in a theoretical-analytical methodology, involving critical comparison of the two models according to selected criteria, followed by a synthesis of conclusions that leads to a proposal for integrating both perspectives into educational practice.
