Abstract

St. Francis of Assisi was a mystic, who wrote about his personal experience of God. One of the titles of God, that he used, is a biblical title „The Highest”. We analyze all his texts to recognize supernatural meanings of this word. „The Highest” means transcendent i.e. holy, majestic, powerful, divine, almighty. „The Highest” means also immanent i.e. intimate, loving, present, establishing relations, manifesting in good. „The Highest” is the goal of a man’s spiritual path, He gives him total happiness. Stigmatic of Assisi expresses in this way his own very intimate experience of God. The word „The Highest” opens us to the contemplation of Holy Trinity.
